Who Am I?
I’m Akiko. Born in Japan, studied and worked in London, UK, more than ten years. I love plants, animals and our beautiful planet. I’m passionate about good food and photography.
Andy, my partner from Sydney, Australia, shares my passion for food, and he is always the first person to taste and read my recipes.
I take the best of the Japanese and Western cuisine and create new, delicious, whole food recipes. So you can expect some Japanese inspiration.
I'm not a professional chef. I also didn't always enjoy cooking in the past. Creating simple, delicious, vegetarian recipes has become a way to fall in love with food again.
I'm discovering joy in food and love creating new recipes. I'm here to share them with you. My passion is making plant forward eating delicious!

What You Can Find in My Blog
Easy breakfast, dinner and dessert recipes - I’ve discovered that finding the right ingredients and cooking delicious meals doesn’t have to be difficult or stressful. It should be all about bringing tasty delight and joy into your everyday life. I’ll help you get there with whole food that is quick and easy.
Delicious and satisfying recipes - I don’t sacrifice taste for calorie counting. Deliciousness and joy guide what I make. But we do use plant forward whole foods and avoid heavily processed food. Our recipes are natural plant based healthiness on a plate without trying too hard.
Recipes with Japanese inspiration - Be inspired by new ideas such as Japanese ingredients and cooking techniques. I grow up by eating Japanese food. I love drawing on my mother’s Japanese cooking and recipes such as yuzu kosho, ponzu sauce, umeboshi or pickled sushi ginger. So you’ll find occasional Japanese recipes and cooking technique here. You can spice up your repertoire by adding something new!
All tried and tested recipes - I test every recipe with my loved ones and share only the recipes that we love and truly enjoy! I am not a trained chef. I am self-taught and am on a journey too. So, when a recipe doesn’t work so well, Andy makes light of it, and I adjust until it’s just right. Sometimes there’s laughter involved!
MIKLIA comes from Japanese ancient language mikli or mikliya, meaning ‘kitchen’. Each week, we share simple and delicious plant based recipes we made in 'our own kitchen'. I hope MIKLIA can be a fun kitchen companion of my readers.
